How to use FYNO

Browse every feature, search for a topic, and jump straight to what you need.

Getting started

Dashboard

Your home screen with balances, charts, budgets, and upcoming items.

The dashboard gives you a quick snapshot after login. Use the currency filter in the header to switch between currencies you actually use.

  • Account balances widget lists each account in the selected currency.
  • Monthly spending and income charts show trends for the current year.
  • Savings goals and category budgets highlight progress and remaining limits.
  • Upcoming recurring transactions show what will post soon.

Organizations & workspaces

Switch between your personal budget and shared company workspaces.

Every user gets a personal workspace automatically. Create a company workspace to share accounts, categories, and transactions with teammates.

  • Use the workspace switcher in the header to move between Personal and company workspaces.
  • Create a company from the switcher when you need a shared business budget.
  • Company data is shared among members; roles control who can invite, view, or edit.
  • Owners and admins can edit the company name, logo, and base currency from Company profile.
  • Send invitations from a company workspace to add colleagues or accountants.

Profile & settings

Language, display currency, avatar, password, and personal preferences.

Open Profile settings from the workspace or user menu to change how FYNO works for you.

  • Language controls the interface and emails where translations exist.
  • Your personal base currency is the default for reports and dashboard filters. A company workspace can have its own base currency.
  • Upload a square avatar (PNG, JPEG, or WebP, max 2 MB).
  • Your email address cannot be changed on the profile screen.
  • Update your password from the same screen — you must enter the current password first.

Sign-in & security

Login, password reset, stay signed in, and email one-time codes.

Sign in with the email and password you registered with. If you forget your password, request a reset link from the login screen.

  • Remember me keeps you signed in — useful on the installed app on a trusted device.
  • Password reset sends a link to your inbox. Use the same email address as your account.
  • Optional email authentication: after your password, FYNO emails a short code you must enter.
  • Enable or manage email authentication from your profile security settings.

Guided tour

Interactive walkthrough for new users.

The guided tour starts automatically the first time you sign in. It highlights accounts, categories, budgets, quick add, and reports.

  • Restart it anytime from the user menu → Guided tour.
  • You can skip the tour; it will not block access to the app.

Master data

Accounts

Bank accounts, cash wallets, and cards that hold your money.

Every transaction belongs to an account. Create one account per real-world wallet or bank account you track.

  • Set name, type, currency, and opening balance when creating an account.
  • Transfers move money between two of your accounts.
  • Account balances update automatically from transactions.

Categories & subcategories

Organise income and spending with optional subcategories.

Categories group your transactions. A top-level category can have subcategories for finer detail (for example Shopping → Groceries).

  • Use New category on the list page — creation happens in a modal.
  • Pick income or expense type; subcategories inherit context from the parent.
  • Import can auto-create categories when enabled.

Category budgets

Monthly spending limits per category and currency.

Budgets help you cap spending in specific categories. The dashboard widget shows spent vs limit for the current month.

  • Create a budget for a category, currency, and monthly amount.
  • Progress updates as you add expense transactions.
  • One budget per category and currency combination.

Currencies

Reference list of supported currencies and how conversion works.

Accounts keep amounts in their own currency. You can opt in to converted totals in reports using ECB reference rates stored for each transaction date. Cross-currency transfers store both amounts and the rate used.

  • Use separate accounts per currency when you track multiple.
  • Currencies is a reference list of codes you assign to accounts — it is not something you edit day to day.
  • The Currencies page header shows whether exchange rates have been synced recently.
  • Choose “Converted to …” on reports for a single base-currency total (historical rates).
  • On FX transfers, edit the destination amount to match your bank rate.

Exchange rates

ECB reference rates for converted reports and FX transfer suggestions.

FYNO stores daily European Central Bank reference rates. Converted report totals use the rate for each transaction date — not necessarily today’s rate.

  • Open Currencies to see the latest rate date, last sync time, and how many pairs were stored.
  • A warning appears on reports if rates look outdated or a date has no rate.
  • Cross-currency transfers suggest a destination amount from the stored rate; you can override it to match your bank.
  • Same-currency amounts stay native unless you pick converted totals on a report or the dashboard filter.

Transactions

Transactions

Income, expenses, and transfers — the core ledger.

The Transactions list is your full history. Search, filter, edit, or delete entries at any time.

  • Income increases an account balance; expenses decrease it.
  • Transfers move value between your own accounts.
  • Pick category and subcategory for reporting breakdowns.
  • Transfers between different currencies ask for a destination amount and store the exchange rate used.
  • If your bank used a different rate than the ECB reference, edit the destination amount (or the rate) before saving.

Quick Add

Fast entry from the green + button or mobile nav.

Quick Add is optimised for speed: fewer fields, same result as a full transaction.

  • Available as a floating button, mobile bottom nav, or Quick Add page.
  • After saving, the form resets so you can enter the next item quickly.
  • Requires the Quick Add permission on your role.
  • Cross-currency transfers work here too — enter the destination amount when the two accounts differ.

Import & export

Bulk load or download transactions as CSV or Excel.

Use import when migrating from a spreadsheet. Use export for backups or external analysis.

  • Import supports category/subcategory columns and combined category paths.
  • Enable auto-create to add missing accounts and categories during import.
  • Export respects current table filters where applicable.

Planning

Recurring transactions

Subscriptions, salaries, and bills on a schedule.

Recurring entries post automatically when due. You can also receive reminders before the next date.

  • Frequencies: weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly.
  • Due items post automatically overnight and also on first dashboard visit each day (safety net).
  • You receive an in-app reminder a few days before the next due date.
  • Turn a rule off to pause posting without deleting it.
  • Edit or pause a recurring rule from Planning → Recurring Transactions.

Savings goals

Track progress toward a target amount by a deadline.

Goals can be updated manually or linked to an account or category for automatic progress.

  • Track progress manually, from a savings account balance, or from spending in a category.
  • Add contributions from the list or link tracking to real activity.
  • Dashboard widget shows active goals and completion percentage.
  • Completed goals can be marked automatically when the target is reached.

Reports

Balance overview

Per-account income, expense, transfer, and balance totals.

Use this report to reconcile accounts and see net movement in a period.

  • Filter by currency and selected accounts, or convert everything to the workspace base currency.
  • Chart visualises balance trends alongside the table.
  • A converted total appears when you choose “Converted to …” in the currency filter.

Monthly report

Month-by-month income vs expense with category breakdown.

Ideal for spotting where money goes each month.

  • Filter by year, month, currency, and categories.
  • Pick a single currency, split view for all currencies, or “Converted to …” for one total in the workspace base currency.
  • Toggle income and expense series on charts.
  • Subcategory table drills down below parent categories.

Yearly report

Twelve-month trends and annual totals.

Compare months across a full year to see seasonal patterns.

  • Filter by year, currency, and categories.
  • Use “Converted to …” when accounts mix currencies and you want one annual total.
  • Trend chart shows net movement over time.

Savings goals report

Feasibility and progress vs real net savings.

See whether goals are on track given your actual income and spending.

  • Adjust lookback period to compare goal pace with reality.
  • Status indicators: on track, at risk, off track.

Tools & mobile

Quick Report (feedback)

Send bug reports and suggestions with optional screenshot.

Found something wrong? Use the amber warning button or the user menu entry.

  • Capture the current page automatically or upload an image.
  • Draw on the screenshot to highlight the issue.
  • Super admins review submissions under Feedback Reports.

Mobile & installable app

Bottom navigation, floating buttons, and PWA install.

On small screens, a bottom bar gives quick access to Home, Quick Add, and Transactions.

  • Drag floating buttons to a corner that suits you — position is remembered.
  • Install FYNO from the browser for an app-like icon on your home screen.
  • Works best after adding to home screen on iOS or Android.

Administration

Invitations

Invite colleagues to your company workspace.

Invitations are sent from a company workspace and grant access to shared company data.

Registration may be invite-only depending on server settings.

  • Send an invitation email with an optional personal message.
  • Assign a role when inviting (if you are allowed to).
  • Revoke or resend pending invitations from the list.

Users & roles

What each workspace role can do, and how owners manage the team.

Company workspaces share data among members. Your role decides whether you can view, edit, invite, or manage people.

  • Owner: full workspace control, including removing members and company profile.
  • Admin: manage members, invitations, and company settings.
  • Member: manage finances and invite teammates.
  • Accountant: manage finances without inviting users.
  • Viewer: read-only dashboards, reports, and records.
  • Owners and admins open Users in a company workspace to change someone’s role.
